"Moving Risk Based Inspection to Predictive IM for delivery of Resilient Subsea Installations" is a half day tutorial being provided by Astrimar at the Oceans'17 conference in Aberdeen
Given the current economic climate, many in the subsea industry are considering how the cost of subsea inspection, monitoring and maintenance can be reduced without compromising safety and integrity and how we can make the subsea industry more resilient to changes and disturbances.
Astrimar's tutorial will cover the basic principles underpinning risk based inspection and the type of modelling and analysis tools needed to move to a more predictive regime for managing subsea installations. The tutorial will include discussions on the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence and machine learning. It will also include discussions on the emerging discipline of resilience engineering and its relationship to the more traditional fields of risk and reliability engineering.
Further information about the tutorial and the Oceans'17 conference (running from 19th to 22nd June), including details of how to register, is available on the Oceans'17 website
Astrimar to present at ITF Technology Showcase in Aberdeen on 1st March
We are looking forward to presenting our pRIOriti-AIM tool for predictive risk based asset integrity management
We are looking forward to presenting our pRIOriti-AIM tool for predictive risk based asset integrity management
The overriding challenge for field operators in today's financial climate is delivery of cost efficient integrity management without compromising asset integrity or production availability. For some operators this challenge is amplified by the need to extend the life of ageing assets. In responding to this, the industry is increasingly implementing risk based inspection to optimise inspection frequencies and to make better use of remote monitoring and data collection systems. Astrimar have developed an advanced predictive integrity management tool, pRIOriti-AIM, to support this initiative through the application of advanced prediction and data analysis techniques.
The development of Predictive Integrity Management capability will take the industry to the next step beyond conventional risk based inspection to deliver asset resilience. A Predictive Integrity Management strategy helps companies to:
Achieve higher capabilities in their ability to anticipate and forecast when equipment is degrading and when failure is likely
Monitor for trends to identify changes of condition and rate
Inform decision making on when to inspect
More effectively prepare and respond to failures and major damage
Learn how asset performance depends on operating conditions and environment.
Astrimar are delighted to be presenting their pRIOriti-AIM tool at the ITF conference. Demonstrations of the tool are also available at our stand on the Tech Bar in the conference Innovation Hall and we look forward to meeting you there. More details about the event can be found on the ITF Showcase website

Astrimar to present at SUT Event
Astrimar will be talking about technology qualification at the SUT Aberdeen branch May evening meeting – Embrace Technology to Maximise Economic Recovery
Astrimar will be talking about technology qualification at the SUT Aberdeen branch May evening meeting – Embrace Technology to Maximise Economic Recovery
Astrimar director Caroline Roberts-Haritonov will be talking about "How can we qualify new technology to give operators the confidence to use it" at the SUT Aberdeen evening meeting Embrace Technology to Maximise Economic Recovery on 25th May.
In a drive for greater confidence in new technology, Operators are increasingly asking for greater qualification assurance evidence, including an understanding of residual risk and technical uncertainty, that is fully traceable to the technology requirements and potential failure modes / degradation mechanisms. This also includes evidence of reliability performance requiring greater focus on reliability testing and analysis than previously done, as well as smarter use of analysis to inform where testing is not practical.
The presentation will provide an overview of industry best practice for technology qualification, including learnings being incorporated into the new API RP 17Q currently under development. It will also provide practical examples of expectations for qualifying new subsea equipment and lessons learned from supporting industry organisations in best practice implementation, including subsea pumping technology qualification.

Astrimar to present at ITF Technology Showcase in Aberdeen on 9th March
Astrimar will be joining RECL to talk about their new well plugging technology including prediction of reliability performance
Astrimar will be joining RECL to talk about their new well plugging technology including prediction of reliability performance
Over the next 20 years, North Sea platform decommissioning and well ‘plugging and abandonment’ (P&A) is estimated to cost > £50billion. Current P&A technologies are based on cement plugs, which are known to be unreliable, leading to potential environmental damage, and expensive well re-abandonment.
In light of these current issues Rawwater Engineering Company Limited (RECL) has, in the last two years, been working on finalising a new technology based on non-shrinking bespoke bismuth alloys which expand upon solidification when cast at target depth within the bore of a well casing. These highly advanced bismuth alloys, termed metallic cement, offer high integrity metal-to-metal seals for zero leakage P&A plugs. The application of the metallic cement technology in spent oil wells will lower the cost of permanent P&A as well as meet regulators demand for a lifetime of >3000 years.
Through a combination of field trials and workshop trials on higher performance alloys, RECL has proved the concept of deploying the metallic cement technology, successfully qualifying to ISO 14310 and API 11D (V0) with Certificate of Feasibility and Statement of Endorsement from Bureau Veritas. The metallic cement technology has now achieved EU technology readiness level 6 (API RP 17N TRL 4) pending commercialisation. The current metallic plug seals are less than 600 mm in length and are designed to function effectively at operating temperatures and differential pressure of 70°C - 160°C and 6000 psi respectively.
Plug reliability is an important requirement and RECL and Astrimar have been working together to identify and develop models for predicting plug reliability performance. These advanced modelling tools have the potential to enable both measurement data and theoretical models to be integrated in reliability predictions.

Astrimar to present at the joint SUT and Subsea UK conference on 1st December on the use of subsea inspection data to estimate failure probability and optimise inspection intervals
Astrimar director Liz Garry will be talking about the use of subsea inspection data to estimate failure probability and optimise inspection intervals at the SUT and Subsea UK joint industry conference taking place in London on Tuesday 1st December.
Application of a simplified state-space model for estimating risk based inspection intervals will be presented which enables asset specific equipment probabilities of failure to be estimated for different failure modes based on historical asset inspection data previously obtained; these can then be used in conjunction with operator risk acceptance criteria to optimize equipment inspection intervals to support a reduction in inspection and intervention costs whilst minimising ongoing operational risk.
The presentation will share the learnings from a pilot study with a leading subsea operator and outline the data requirements for practical implementation based on typically collected data.
